Homemade: Chai Tea

By Julia - 14:11:00

Today winter showed up. To no surprise, my tea consumption is quite high these days. And because it's Sunday and I have some free time I will make some Chai for myself. The first time I actually tried this recipe was after my mom gifted me all the necessary spices and wrote the recipe on a card for me (just in case you coincidentally need some small gift inspiration.). I loved it and I hope you do too.

You need for one litre of tea:

  • 500 ml of water
  • 500 ml (vegetable) milk
  • 10 cardamom capsule
  • 4 dried cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 6-star anise
  • 1 tsp peppercorns
  • 1 piece of ginger (in slices)
  • 1 tbsp black tea
Pound all spices (except the ginger) roughly with a mortar and roast them a bit in a pot. Be careful not to burn them. Add the water and the ginger and let it boil for 3 minutes. Add milk and the tea. Let it boil up again. Set your stove on the smallest possible temperature and let the tea simmer for another 15 min. Pour it through a filter, sweeten if necessary!
