Monthly Favourites //October 2018

November... I don't know where the year has gone, to be honest. It flew by. I always tend to not take the end of the year serious anymore - it's as good as gone right? I should sit down and make some end of the year planning in order to not just miss these last two month... Especially for when I can leave the city.

Activity: Harvesting.
The time is now! Even in cities, you can find your food in a tree. I picked walnuts, apples, pears, all at accessible places on public land. I go past the street where people put out baskets with apples from their trees free to take (which makes me miss the countryside but what you wanna do?).
I switched my breakfast fulltime to porridge and I put in all the above. As well: cracking all these nuts in the evenings (in our household this is done with pliers.).

Activity: Getting Cosy.
Me, wrapped up in a blanket. Ideal state. Yes, I do my workouts but I have to listen to my instinct too - winter is coming, let's not waste too much energy! And where can we save some? It the season where it's finally okay to reduce your social life and I spend my evenings and weekends, not in pubs, parks or at friends instead I stay in. With tea or warm milk.
I like it that way all year round but when it gets colder nobody bothers asking you out most of the time - everybody is wrapped up in their blankets! I guess it's not the last time this year that this makes the list...

Gear: Nike Zoned Shield Hooded Jacket
I have this jacket since a while now and it has proven to be the perfect every day running companion. Especially during this time of year when the cold comes with the wind (and seaside city in autumn = a lot of wind). Being sweaty and having a cold breeze is not a good combination...
For doing most of my runs it has everything I need: a detachable hood, two zip pockets, holds of rain and its very lightweight.

Product: All The Teas!
Tea season has started! I never drink as much tea as during this time and I'm sure many are with me. So why not share my favourite ones in this post? I loved almost every Pukka Tea I tried and the Echinacea/Elderberry is my favourite at the moment - yes, I think this is crazy expensive tea but I would say their teas are worth it. Their turmeric ones actually have a lot of turmeric in them and I know that sounds obvious but it's not: many turmeric teas (for example) consist still mostly of a carrier tea like black tea. Pukka teas don't. And this goes for other more organic brands as well. Like everywhere: pay attention to the ingredient list!


Food: Golden Tumeric Milk.
Another beverage (after loving a smoothie already last month) - shifting right from refreshing to warming. I mostly make this in the evening when I feel like snacking and being comfortable. Her is the recipe:
A cup of Milk (I like oat milk but whatever kind works)
Fresh Ginger, sliced
Fresh Tumeric, sliced
Cinnamon Stick
1 tbsp Coconut Oil
Pinch of Black Pepper
1 tsp Honey/Maple Syrup/Agave Syrup (whatever you prefer)

Put all the ingredients in a pot and warm it up. I like to add some extra cinnamon powder on top. You can obviously vary the amount of every ingredient according to your taste. If you can't get the ginger or the turmeric fresh, use powder.
Tip: There is no need to peel the ginger or the turmeric like with many plants there is a lot of the good stuff right under the skin.
